FANTAWOOD

One day my grandpa told me
“If you make a good piece, it can even make a pigsty look nice.”

The art of carpentry

This profession passes from one generation to another, from the old maker to the new.

The grandfather introduces his grandson to wood in all its facets: the solidity of oak, the purple shades of walnut, the lightness of poplar and the uniqueness of each and every piece of wood.

Saws, sanders, clamps, lathes and planes from another era still perform their function very well – with small adjustments and updates.

Solid rough expert hands – with countless works done – let young, vigorous proactive hands go ahead and take the lead.

 F.A.Q.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOLID WOOD AND CHIPBOARD?

Solid wood is real wood, straight from the tree! Chipboard is a mixture of glue and shavings derived from processing waste. Thus, solid wood is clearly superior in terms of beauty, strength, versatility and longevity, as it can always be repaired somehow. Another fundamental difference is that chipboard swells and rots when it gets wet.

HOW DO I GET COLOURED WOOD?

– with the coloured primer, which gives colour without covering the grain of the wood, for a realistic wood effect;

– with a covering paint – chosen from a RAL color palette – applied by spray, roller or brush, which will cover the grain but will allow the porosity of the wood to be visible (customized colours are possible);

– with spray lacquering, which is a covering paint – chosen from a RAL color palette – but usually performed on MDF panels – which are a mixture of glue and sawdust and have no grain or pores, for a final smooth effect, both shiny and matte.

HOW LONG DOES HANDMADE WOODEN FURNITURE LAST?

If treated well, an indoor solid wood piece of furniture can last forever, as we can see from the many antique pieces of furniture that have come to us. The piece of furniture should be stored without particular care but it mustn’t understake stresses for which it was not designed.

On the other hand, outdoor furniture is best kept indoors and protected from direct sun when not used. For those pieces that are always outdoors, maintenance of the surfaces will be necessary every few years.
